Eyelid Surgery
Procedure Details
Our Pittsburgh Plastic Surgeon performs blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery as an outpatient procedure. It can be done under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Upper lid blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia and takes 30-45 minutes. If upper and lower blepharoplasties are carried out, sedation or general anesthesia are administered and it takes 1,5-2 hours to complete the procedure. All sutures are removed within 5 to seven days. Our faces vary in grade of asymmetry. Some incisions are placed in the natural creases; others are placed outside of natural creases in the corner of the hooding areas to create a lifting effect. We favor reduction of the fat through the scarless incision behind the eyelashes with conservative fat removal, mainly repositioning to give youa more youthful, natural contour. Smoother skin will be achieved with laser treatment or a pinch of skin to remove its redundancy. Offered in Pittsburgh, cosmetic Surgery for eyelid or blepharoplasty is carried out with conservative fat removal to prevent a hollowed appearance, repositioning it into deeper creases between lid/cheek junction, curve incisions upwards at the lateral borders of the eyelids. Dr Wooten doesn’t recommend utilizing fat grafting in the eye region as it’s long term effects are unpredictable. Fillers will not replace the effect of surgery. They only camouflage the crease between the lid and the cheek. Using fillers will not improve eyelid puffiness or eliminate skin excess. Sometimes an eyelift procedure is combined with skin resurfacing, browlift,or a face/neck lift. Selecting a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is very important in your decision making.
