Breast Lift
Recovery
Surprisingly, breast lift surgery is not very painful. Breasts will be bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable for a day or two, but the pain shouldn't be severe. Any discomfort you do feel can be relieved with pain medications. Expect to have some wrinkling around the areola especially if the minimal scar breast lift is performed.. Although you will be up and walking the next day, most patients are able to return to work in about one week. Some patients recover outstandingly well and have been able to return earlier, however the average is about a week. In order to resume any exercise programs or any heavy lifting, it may take 3-4 weeks, depending on how well you heal as an individual; the average is about 4 weeks.
After surgery, you'll wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings. Within a few days, a soft support bra will replace the bandages or surgical bra. You'll need to wear this bra around the clock for three to four weeks. All sutures are absorbable and do not have to be removed after the procedure. Drains are very rare after this procedure. If your breast skin is very dry following surgery, you can apply a moisturizer several times a day. Be careful to keep the moisturizer away from the suture areas. There are some creams that can be used to help with healing (i.e. Scarguard, silicone strips, vitamin E, etc); these you can start using after the steri strips are removed. You can expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin, caused by the swelling after surgery. This numbness usually fades as the swelling subsides over the next six weeks or so. In some patients, however, it may last a year or more, and occasionally may be permanent. Because this procedure is accomplished without the use of an implant, associated risks and complications of this additional procedure are eliminated. The breast is soft with a pleasing shape. The incisions from your breast lift surgery will heal and fade over time. It is important to realize, however, that the incision lines will be permanently visible. Fortunately, the incisions for your breast lift are in locations easily concealed by clothing, even low-cut necklines. Unless you gain or lose a significant amount of weight or become pregnant, your new breast shape should remain fairly constant. However, gravity and the effects of aging may eventually alter the size and shape of virtually every woman's breasts.
