Why go to a Plastic Surgeon?

Did you ever wonder WHY people say "you should go to a Board Certified Pittsburgh Plastic Surgeon"? There are many doctors and dentists who do facelifts, laser therapies, eye surgeries, liposuction and often charge less than a Plastic Surgeon.  There is not a law that says only plastic surgeons can perform these procedures. But these are serious surgeries and should be entrusted to the surgeons who have been specifically trained in this specialty and have spent years learning the surgical procedure and the management of patients after the surgery, rather than a doctor who did a residency in family medicine and took a course or two in liposuction, was trained on the equipment, and is now out there operating on real patients.
The federal government only recognizes one board and that is the American Board of Plastic Surgery. So, your surgeon should be certified by that board, and not others, such as the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, which is not recognized by the government, but merely a club or organization to which a doctor can join with no testing or credentialing involved.

So, remember, when doing your search for a surgeon to perform surgery on you, investigate his/her credentials. Don't be afraid to ask if you don't see diplomas in the office.
